July 22nd - July 31st
This is the time of year that always gets the most interest so I have been fishing daily. With good weather comes bigger halibut.
We have been focused on the Barren Islands when the wind is 15knots or less. The halibut and rockfish are feeding on a massive school of Capelin that seems to just be swirling around the Barren islands right now. Birds and whales EVERYWHERE! We have had some decent shooters these past 2 weeks averaging 1 when we go east and 2 when we go south.
We have picked up a couple kings of respectable size at the Barrens this past week while targeting rockfish (always a nice surprise.)
When Salmon are the primary focus we have been getting it done primarily around Perl, East Chugach and Pt. Adams. Still fighting through loads of pinks to get down to the Silvers and Kings but once you get below the 30ft line its pretty much guaranteed bites.
When the weather allows us to get out to the Chugach Islands or the Barren Islands the halibut are stupid good.
